Evergreen Square raises more than $500 for Sisters Network,
Inc.
Tunes Over Tupelo – helping tune out cancer Evergreen Square Apartments held its first annual Tunes
Over Tupelo, Saturday, June 12, 2004 to benefit the
Sisters Network, Inc., a national
breast cancer survivorship organization, and raised more than $500
during the three-hour event.
A one-dollar donation granted access to more than 400 people
who attended. The fundraiser brought awareness to the community as well
as
the residents
of Evergreen Square about cancer and some preventative measures women
can take. The Sisters Network administered blood pressure screenings
and distributed vouchers for free mammograms for all who attended.
Residence Hospice Care was also on hand providing information about their
services.
Tipitina’s Special Events of New Orleans barbecued hamburgers
and hotdogs with baked beans, potato salad, soft drinks and water. Live
performances from the poolside stage by Quest, Outstretched Hands gospel
choir and the Temple of Compassion and Deliverance Church Choir kept
the tunes over Tupelo and Evergreen Square. The property’s swimming
pool was open to the public where water volleyball games started up as
others just enjoyed the live music at the pool.
Ticket sales to games such as the Money Wheel, the Duck Pond and Pitch
Till You Win collected additional money. Additional ticket purchases
could furthermore get a participant a turn at the Dunking Tank. The children
also enjoyed jumping around in the 4-in-1 Bounce House. Sponsors for the event included Aaron’s Furniture who set up a
model apartment, the Boy Scouts of America who had popcorn for everyone,
and Frederick A. Ross Legal Services. 92 Jamz helped the cause also by
providing a live remote for the day.
Emcee Kentrel Boyd of Eye Ad, Inc. awarded door prizes throughout the
course of the day. Residence Hospice Care, The Sisters Network, Inc.,
Whittington Office Products, Tiffany’s Tips and Toes, Premier
Lady fitness center, Rent-to-Own, Sam’s Club, Wicks n’ More,
Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, Captain D’s, Red Lobster, Sunny Cross Flower,
Dan’s Rent to Own and Exquisite Design all donated the prizes.
A raffle was held for a pearl necklace and earrings donated by MVW
Gallery of New Orleans. Tipitina’s Foundation also conducted two DJ training seminars
for the children on the property on both Friday, June 11 and directly
after Tunes Over Tupelo ended. The children learned how to cue, loop,
mix, scratch and pull other typical DJ moves that they showcased in a
Sock Hop the evening after the event. Fountainbleau
Management, based out of New Orleans, LA, has always believed
in giving back to the different communities where its properties are
located. Donating to various charitable organizations, conducting fundraisers,
and creating life-improvement programs on all of its properties are all
a large part of its mission.
